Instructions for the

"Fluttering Heart"
By Pioneer® Balloon Company

Labor: About 10 Minutes
Materials:
1-6" (15cm) Ruby Red Latex Heart 43647
1-6" Pink GEO Blossom® Latex Balloon 87162
1-160Q White Latex Balloon 43918
1 Twinkler Light Valve 63785
Qualatex Hand Air Inflator 21472
Instructions:
1. Set the Twinkler valve to either blinking or continuous mode. Turn the light off and open the valve by fully turning the base in a clockwise direction.

2. Stretch the neck of the 6" Heart over the bulb end of the valve, sliding the neck down so that the base of the heart shape is level with the bulb inside the balloon. Make sure the neck of the balloon does not cover the opening in the middle of the valve.

3. Insert the air inflator into the hole at the base of the valve. Holding the tip of the inflator firmly into the base, fully inflate the 6" Heart. Twist the base of the valve counterclockwise to seal the balloon. If the light comes on, loosen the valve a little until the light turns off.

4. Place the Twinkler valve through the center of the uninflated 6" GEO Blossom.

5. Inflate the 160Q to approximately 24" (61cm) and tie. Fold the 160Q in half, twist, and tie the ends together.

6. Slide the uninflated tip of the 160Q through the loop in the Twinkler valve and tie. Remove any excess 160Q.

7. Fully inflate the 6" Blossom and tie.

8. To activate the Twinkler, pull the valve up so the base is above the 6" Blossom. Fully twist the base of the valve counterclockwise to turn on the light.

Instructions for Ralph Dewey's
"Valentine's Hat"
By Ralph Dewey
A cool hat for Valentine's Day can be made by using the "Chain Weave". It's not that difficult to learn and it gives an interesting look to the hat.
You Will Need:
2 - Red 160s
2 - White 260's
1 - 6" Heart Balloon

Instructions:
The Headband
Fully inflate two red #160 balloons except for 2-1/2" and tie their nozzles together. Then fully two white #160 balloons except for 2-1/2" and tie their nozzles together. Each link of the "Chain Weave" will need to be approximately 4-1/2" long if the hat is meant for an adult. Use shorter lengths if you make it for a child. You will need to make a total of 7 sets of red links and 6 sets of white links. Position the knots of the white #160 balloons 2-1/4" away from the knots of the red balloons. Then twist off two 4-1/2" red bubbles (one link) thus capturing the white knots. That makes the first set of 4-1/2" red bubbles.

Twist off a set of white 4-1/2" bubbles in the same manner. Continue alternating with red and white sets of bubbles until you have 7 red sets of bubbles and 6 white sets of bubbles. Tie off the white balloons at the end of the 6th set of bubbles. Tie together the beginning and end of the 7 sets of the red balloons. That completes the chain headband.

The Heart
Take a 6" red heart balloon and inflate it to about 90% and tie off the nozzle. Connect it at the front of the headband between the 3rd and 4th set of white bubbles.

That can be one way to finish the Valentine hat. But if you would like to enhance it even further, you can add a 30" section of another white #160 balloon to it. At the nozzle end twist off a 1" bubble and ear-twist it. Shape it into a heart shape and then twist off another 1" bubble and ear-twist it. Connect the first ear-twist between the 3rd and 4th red bubble and connect the second ear-twist to the 4th and 5th bubble. See the photos for details.

Now your Valentine hat is completed.
