| Sand Weight |
| . |
1. Make the sand weight with
a 16" latex balloon filled to softball size, then flattened
on the bottom. For the “feet,” make a 4-balloon
cluster of 11" White inflated to 10" (25cm) and
tie to the sand weight. |
2. Air inflate two White 646Qs,
leaving 1" uninflated, and tie the necks together. Repeat
to make two more pairs. Twist the knots of the three pairs
together, and tie the opposite ends together to complete the
“skirt.” Tie this White 646Q cluster to the feet.
(All balloons must be inflated to the same size for the stand-up
to remain upright.) |
3. For the torso, make a 4-balloon
cluster of White 646Qs inflated to 17" (43cm). Tie the
uninflated tips to the top of the skirt, and trim any excess. |
4. Make a 6-balloon cluster
of 5" White inflated to 4" (10cm) for a “waist.”
Push the cluster between the two 646Q clusters, twisting two
of the balloons around each other to secure. Add more 4"
White balloons as needed to cover the knots. |
5. Inflate the “face”
balloon and tie to the top 646Q cluster. To ensure a natural,
teardrop shape, place the neck roll of the balloon slightly
onto the inflation tip. Slowly fill the balloon until it begins
to taper at the bottom and form a “chin.” |
6. To make the “arms,”
inflate two White 350Qs to about 30" (76cm), and tie
the necks together. Push the arms through the torso and pull
them up to the “neck.” Gently bend the 350Qs to
create a curve, then tie the uninflated tips together. |
7. Make a 5-balloon cluster
of 5" White inflated to 4" (10cm). Wrap the cluster
around the area between the head and body for a “collar.” |
8. To make the “wings,”
inflate White 350Qs to the following sizes: 4 at 36"
(91cm); 4 at 30" (76cm); and 4 at 24" (61cm). Tie
the same size balloons together in pairs. Make a 3" (8cm)
pinch twist at the knot ends of both balloons in each pair,
then wrap the twists together. Tie the uninflated tips together. |
9. Arrange the wings into two
sets with the largest wing on top and the smallest on bottom,
by tying the 350Qs together at the knots. |
10. Inflate a 5" White
to 4" (10cm) and tie. Tie an uninflated White 350Q to
the 4" balloon’s knot. Bring the centers of the
wing sets together, then wrap the uninflated 350Q around the
intersection, and position the 4" to cover the knots. |
11. Wrap the uninflated 350Q
under the collar and back around the wings several times to
secure. The wings should be snug against the torso. |
12. Air inflate three “Holly
Leaf” balloons, then tie the necks together with BalloonRibbon.
Make a 3-balloon cluster of 5" Ruby Red inflated to 3"
(8cm). Wrap the cluster around the intersection of the “Holly
Leaf” balloons. Tie in lengths of “Christmas Plaid”
ribbon and holly wire. Glue to the ends of the Angel’s
arms to hide the knots. |
13. To make a “halo,”
inflate the Citrine Yellow 260Q about 2/3 full and tie. Wrap
the 206Q around the Angel’s head, then make a twist
in the end of the balloon and tie the knot around it. Deflate
and trim any remaining balloon. Wrap holly wire around the
260Q, then cool glue the halo to the head. |

Instructions for the
"Majestic Christmas Tree"
By Linda Bruce, CBA
Labor: About 40 Minutes |
|
Materials:
|
|
| 1-20" Metallic
Gold Star |
| 8-11" Ruby Red
Latex Balloons |
| 5-Ruby Red Latex
Balloons |
| 5-Gold Latex Balloons |
| 36-646Q Emerald Green
Giant Airship Latex Balloons |
| SDS™ Base Plate |
| 1-6’ Piece
of ¼" Aluminum Rod (sharpened to a point at one
end) |
| Fabric Tree Skirt |
| Duct Tape and Cool
Glue |
| |
| |
| |
| . |
1. Duct tape the aluminum rod
to the shaft of the base plate. |
2. Fully inflate a 646Q balloon,
measure 34" (86cm) from the tip, then twist at that point
and tie, leaving a long, deflated neck. |
3. Push the deflated neck over
the sharpened aluminum rod, and slide the balloon down to
rest 18" (46cm) above the base plate. |
4. Inflate two more 646Qs as
in Step 2, then thread each onto the rod, “spoking”
the three balloons around the rod. This creates the bottom
row of the tree. |
5. Add rows following Steps
2-4 in the following balloon lengths:
Row 2-7 34" (86cm) balloons
Row 8 29" (74cm) balloons
Row 9 24" (61cm) balloons
Row 10-11 20" (51cm) balloons
Row 12 18" (46cm) balloons
As you add each row and “spoke” the balloons,
make sure each 646Q nests between those on the previous row.
Adjust the rows as needed. |
6. After all the 646Qs have
been added, duct tape the sharp point of the rod. |
7. Helium inflate the 20? Star
and duct tape it to the top of the rod. |
8. Make a 4-balloon cluster
of 5" Ruby Red inflated to 2" (5cm). Wrap the cluster
onto the rod below the 20" Star. |
9. Inflate 5" balloons
in desired colors to 2", trim excess, and cool glue to
the 646Q “branches” as “ornaments.” |
10. For the base, make a 4-balloon
cluster of 11" Ruby Red inflated to 9" (23cm) and
wrap around the rod at the base. |
11. Add a second cluster of
11" Ruby Red inflated to 6" (15cm) above the previous
cluster. |
12. Wrap the tree skirt around
the rod, resting it on top of the two clusters. |

| Sand |
| . |
1. Make a sand weight using
the 16" latex balloon filled to softball size. Roll the
weight into a “tube” shape, then stretch open
the neck of the uninflated 3' balloon and insert the weight.
Flatten the sand weight before inflating the 3' balloon. |
2. Air inflate the 3' balloon
to 25" (64cm) and tie. |
3. Air inflate the 24"
“Smile Face Snowman” to 18" (46cm) for a
more round appearance and tie to the knot of the 3' balloon. |
4. To make the “scarf,”
fully air inflate one Sapphire Blue 350Q and inflate the second
to about 32" (81cm). Tie the necks together, then wrap
the longer balloon around the shorter balloon. Twist the two
balloons together 7-10" (18-25cm) from the long end,
leaving the end of one balloon longer than the other. |
5. Wrap the scarf around the
Snowman’s neck. Secure by wrapping the 350Q knot around
the twist in the two balloons. |
6. Inflate three 5" Onyx
Black balloons to 3" (7.6cm) and apple twist each one
(see sidebar). Cool glue to the front of the Snowman for “buttons.” |
7. To make the “arms,”
inflate one Onyx Black 260Q to 24" and tie. Inflate a
second Onyx Black 260Q to 10" (25cm) and tie. Tie a knot
at the opposite end of the inflated portion of the balloon,
then trim the excess. Twist the 10" bubble in half, then
twist the center onto the 24" 260Q about 8" (20cm)
from one end. Inflate a third 260Q to 10" and tie. Tie
a knot at the opposite end of the inflated portion of the
balloon, then trim the excess. Twist the 10" bubble in
half, then twist the center onto the 24" 260Q about 8"
from the first 10" “branch.” Cool glue one
end of the arm to the 3' White balloon. |
8. Repeat Step 7 to make a
second arm. |
9. Cool glue the top hat to
the Snowman’s head. |
